Holiday Greetings 2020

Dear Friends,

During WWII, the French, demoralized by the war and their enemies’ occupation of their country, would brush aside their malaise with the expression “C’est la guerre”.  Literally, “it’s the war”.  It can’t be helped.

When Covid 19 shut down our lives in March, none of us foresaw the war coming.  The death, economic destruction, and complete annihilation of our societal norms.  Working remotely; restaurants and bars shut down, and holidays and social visits with family and friends have all been limited and controlled.

As the months passed the number of deaths has risen to over 300 thousand people. We have witnessed a death toll equivalent to five Vietnam wars in less than ten months.

Well, you are probably thinking this is not the cheery Happy Holiday letter you might expect.  But it is.  Because today, first responders and the elderly are being vaccinated.  In Britain, they called it “V-Day”.  Today on the news, I heard it is being referred to here as “D-Day”. There is hope.  In a few days it will be the Winter Solstice and the days will be longer and brighter. I personally can’t wait until 2020 is over, and the pain and suffering; the economic devastation, and political divisions it has brought are also over.

No more “C’est la guerre” attitudes.  When the time is right, I invite all of you to meet me at a loud noisy bar, where nobody has to wear a mask, and let’s hug have a drink together.

A Happy Chanukah; Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza, and a Healthy and Happy New Year!
